What Is a Rollout Strategy?

A rollout strategy is a structured plan for how a release is marketed, promoted, and delivered to the public — covering everything from pre-release content to post-release push.

A rollout strategy is the planned sequence of moves surrounding a music release. It determines when and how content is revealed, what promotional materials are deployed, which platforms are prioritized, and how the release is positioned to build momentum before and after the drop date.

A strong rollout typically includes: a content calendar for pre-release teasers and announcements, DSP pitch submissions for playlist consideration (submitted well in advance of release), coordinated social media activity, press or blog outreach if applicable, and a post-release push to sustain streaming activity after launch week.

Lead time is critical. Most DSP editorial teams require a minimum of 4 weeks to consider a release for playlist placement. A rollout strategy that starts too close to the release date leaves little room for support from platforms, press, or promotional partners.
